employment

I am considering either this field or special ed. I presently have an elementary degree. I am wondering if most LDTC's have a special ed degree also, or they just have their sole degree. I am conerned about employability in that I don't want to pursue the LDTC program if most all districts generally seek to hire those with a special ed degree also, or if it matters at all. I don't know if having the elementary degree counts for anything. As this is a return to college, and a large expense, I don't want to spend so much time and money if the likelihood is that most schools want someone with both, or maybe not as that would be a rarity. Also, of the special ed teachers I have talked to, some said they got the LD cert. but found the job to be so much work, and that they had to take extraordinary time at home also to perform the tasks, that they went back to special ed. Please help with your knowledge.
